SUBMIT A COYOTE SIGHTING REPORT
Frequently Asked Questions
Great question! Coyotes have become a hot topic on Isle of Palms. If we truly want to align our thinking and define a successful strategy for managing them, we need to start by identifying and quantifying the problem.
Data will be compiled to populate various metrics that will be available publicly at betteriop.com/coyotes. Metrics are still a work in progress (and feedback is always welcome), but for example, we will look to identify:
- # of Coyote Sightings per month
- % of coyote sightings that occur in the dark/during the daylight/at dusk or dawn
- Frequency of coyote sightings at given locations
- Coyote behavior after seeing humans
Yes it would! But I’ll leave that to the professionals. In the meantime, crowd sourcing detailed sighting information is a quick, easy, and efficient way to begin tracking pattern and behavioral changes that could aid in our decision making process down the road.
We ask that you share your contact information so that we are able to provide some level of validation to sighting reports. We may occasionally ask for more details about your report, but your contact information will not be published publicly with the data.
